Week 16: Nivelles + Paris + Elders

Whoah crazy crazy week.
More porting, more crazy people.  Someone made up a song for us, it goes something like  "Rara bonne sœur, parler de Jésus-Christ" good stuff.

Wednesday, we woke up before the sun and headed to Paris for OFII (the Bleu legality medical exam) and I got to have a Paris Pday! Just kidding, I just made sure we went contacting for 5 minutes where I could get a good picture of the Eiffel Tower. Then we went to KFC, before we headed back to Belgium. :')

We had good rendezvouses I just love everyone we are meeting with. One of our amis, Patricia, made us an American meal. She got it from watching the food network in a hotel in Florida, it was way fancier than any American food I have had. She is a great lady and she is progressing so fast and well and feels the spirit so strong in her life.

Today for Pday we found ourselves in this little ville with an old Abbey you can tour.  It was so amazing! Afterwards we had to sprint for the train because those Elders just won't listen when you say we need to leave haha...so they made it and it left as we were grabbing onto the rail. One of those movie moments you know? :') So me and Soeur McBride are finding a way back to Nivelles currently, hopefully we get there before 18h. ✌

Slowly our amis and ward members are coming back from vacance and we have zone conference on Friday, so it's going to be a good week! If we ever make it home. This email is so bad.. wow, I will leave it with a quote from our favorite cat cheeto, "Believe."

Have a good one! ♡

Week 15: Nivelles + Fêtes 🇧🇪

It was a good week for the Nivelles Sœurs. Nivelles was busy all week because it was Belgium's Independence day on Friday. One night I heard "twist & shout" from our apartment. I seriously love how much they listen to English music haha. And we got some good belg frites with a good fat pesto hamburger bonne appetit I am 100% living the phrase "profitée"

Monday night we went to Lille/V'Dasq for exchanges! So fun, me and Sœur Buchanan did lots of finding and I learned so much! People in France are so different from the Belg, I feel like I am going to get culture shock all over again when I leave Belgium.

We did lots more porting this week. I think I am an odd one because I absolutely love porting. It's always a good game of what's behind this door; shirtless fat man? Jehovah's witness? Old lady with freaky make up? Someone who will want to get baptized next week? People aren't pressé so usually they will at least listen to who you are and they will either say non mercie or have a good conversation with you. We had some good conversations and met some cool potential amis, definitely had weird things happen so yeah 🤙

On Friday we went to Namur's finding day and because it was the 21 de Juillet, traveling was terrible. We went up to Bruxelles and down but somewhere they decided to change route, we saw a lot of the Dutch mission, so beautiful, and got to Namur eventually.  Namur is the prettiest ville I have seen so far in Europe. In the morning we went contacting with a member who was actually just recently baptized, it was so great. She was so good at talking to everyone but at the end she was like "oh this is hard. People are difficult." Yeah. Yeah..at the end of the day our train stopped half way to Charleroi and we had to bus it to that gare then catch a train chez nous, it took forever and me and Soeur McBride were sick because we ate raw chicken the night before (funny story) always always good times traveling.

Saturday was such a feel good. Nancy and her family are moving to this beautiful old home in Buzet so we went to do some gros cleaning. I felt like I was on Extreme Home Make Over, the home is beautiful but it was filthy. Her and her husband invited us to stay for lunch after everyone had left and they are just doing so well after they've had the hardest year. We stayed and helped for a few more hours and just talked to them as we worked and it felt so so good. I love their family and I am so happy they are having some good change.

OH, Patricia Patricia. We have been recently meeting with Patricia who is the neighbor/friend of Beatrice and John De Lauw. Her husband passed away a few months ago and she has been coming to church with them recently. She has been feeling the spirit so strong in her life and she loves the peace she feels in the chapel. She is so amazing to talk to! We have a rendezvous with her and her son this week and they are going to make us American food (Caesar salad ..heck yeah) because they love America probably more than we do. Haha. Her son was actually paralyzed when he was 14 in a motocross accident, he is in all the newspapers here recently because he is a race car driver..or something cool like that. He is definitely a really super cool guy.

Happy Birthday BroBro
16 ... lol, too bad you can't drive!

BYE LOVE YOU GUYS

Week 14: Le Livre De Mormon

This week we had two finding days one for Nivelles and one for Charleroi. Then we ended up NOT having exchanges so we found a lot on Friday as well :') Two things that President Sorensen wants us doing is talking to 20 people each day and using the Book of Mormon when contacting. You would think these things are things we would already be doing, and we do usually try to talk to everyone, but as we've been keeping track of how many solid conversations we have had and introduced the Book of Mormon in every conversation, there has been a huge difference. Our conversations are longer, people understand more of who we are, and they are way more interested in our message.
One girl we talked to this week, Celina, was 17 and I gave her the Book of Mormon and asked her to read Moroni 10:3-5. She read it over and over and said "I feel the same good spirit as I do when I listen to really good music" and she accepted it and told us she would begin reading it, not just the introduction, but she would read the whole thing. People are cool.
Another guy we met, Victor, accepted the Book of Mormon as well and told us he was excited to share it with his family. He said his parents would be very interested and that he would begin reading it and call us with questions since he is too busy for a rendezvous right now. I mean I hope he does, bien sûre, but it's really just cool to see their initial reaction "oh I've heard of that..." to how they feel after they hold it in their hands and know what it actually is.
A lady we ported into saw it in our hands and asked about it. She is too busy, even at night before bed she said, to read it. So we are going to read it with her whenever we can go to Tubize. She will read in Italian, we will read in English, and we will discuss it in French. I'm excited. The Book of Mormon is so so powerful, wow!

Christiane is doing really well, she hasn't been able to come to church sadly, but our last rendezvous she really opened up to us. She shared her concerns and what she isn't so sure about, we just talked and after I asked "Do you want to get baptized?" Because it kind of felt like before she was just dragging it out, and she said "Oui, Bien Sûre!!" So that's where we are at, she will be getting baptized in August when the Desmedts get back from Vacance. 😊 She is also making us the Nivelles specialty tart this week and her son is going to play the piano for us, he is actually coming in the room while we are there, it's tres chouette.

We had a primary activity on Saturday, there were only five kids but it went so well! They wore their badges to church and tied their dad's ties and it was so stinking cute. We had them do a door approach too and it was hilarious.

I ate a lot of cereal this week. And me and Soeur McBride did a lot of weird things and laughed a lot so I think we killed it this week. Except when it was like 17h45 and she couldn't decide whether she should say Bonjour or Bonsoir so when they opened the door she said "Bonsœur" and therefore introduced us as nuns right at the get go. Hahaha.

My poptarts are gone but I'm having Mac and Cheese this week bud. See ya!

Coucou from Nivelles

Coucou!

Nivelles is still amazing just really empty haha. Everyone is headed out to the South of France for like 3-6 weeks..who are these people?! But finding is fun and we have had some cool experiences this week.  Drunk people really wanting my really nice plaque, old ladies telling us all the gossip then giving us cookies and people who will talk to you for 45 minutes, ask so many questions, then say they aren't interested in religion. It's all good, you learn so much from everyone you talk to.
Christianne, Sabine and Gaeton are doing well. Members are giving us some solid referrals. Just everyone seriously is like see ya in August, see ya in September!  We see Bridgette and it's like she is not even herself. She asks us everyday if we are headed to mass or whatever and we are like it's not Sunday...she seems confused it's sad, really sad.

Really sad I have to miss another 4th of July but it's okay, I will be in France for BASTILLE day y'all.

Also, while walking through Braine we received a dinner revelation and we basically made an amazing hot pocket in about 5 minutes. We are killin' it.

Soeur McBride is so chill. I already know she will be one of my favorite companions. We have so much fun and just laugh about everything.  It just makes the work seem less hard, makes time finding go by faster but also smoother, more enjoyable, more inspired. So yeah I am happy.  It's hard sometimes, especially talking to people on the phone but I feel more confident in what I know. And yeah it's good. My accent is coming in, I've been working on my throaty R's.  It's so fun to just learn the language together and just make everyday a good day. We decided to dye my hair but we couldn't translate the directions so we just went for it haha.

We have a couple of finding days this week and exchanges in France on Friday! (Bastille Day, yay yay) So it's gonna be good! Training is an adventure, we are just taking it one week at a time.

Okay have a good week. And pray for Christiane and Sabine, we will be discussing Baptismal dates this week. :)
